Getting Started Training Opportunities

You need no formal qualifications before you start, but as you work there will be the opportunity to develop skills through on-the-job training and learning courses. Many of these are work-based or involve day release to attend local colleges. Others are full time training courses for which allowances may be payable. Before starting work, all social care workers are subject to checks with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) - click here for further details.

A trained assessor will join you for periods to assess your abilities in the different aspects of your job. NVQ'S in Care and Management cover a wide range of areas, set for various levels of competence and experience. NVQ's in Health and Social Care are available at levels 2, 3 and 4. Various NVQs in management are also available. Your employer can advise on which will be best for you to take.
