Jenny. Resettlement Officer

Jenny is a resettlement officer supporting people with learning disabilities to live independently in the community. Her caseload of 27 service users face a wide range of problems; Jenny’s role is to work out the most practical and effective ways of offering the support they need.

"There’s scope to be creative in your thinking, as long as you can justify your plans. For instance, I put together a package of music lessons, some go-karting sessions, and walks in wetlands for a young man with autism. He was on the verge of having to go into residential care; now the confidence and interests he has acquired mean that he is managing to live independently and sustain a social network. I trained initially as an occupational therapist which introduced me to social work. I knew then that I’d like to pursue it as a career."
